Noon Cosmologram Birth Charts spacer
The planets are always moving, and a new sign begins rising in the east approximately every two hours. This means that there is no way to calculate the planets' positions as accurately as possible or to know which sign was rising at the moment a person was born without an accurate birth time. One traditional method of creating a chart without having an accurate birth time is to create a chart for 12 PM of the day of a person's birth. This type of chart is called a noon chart. This is the type of chart I will create if you select "not known" for the time of birth.

What is shown in a noon chart?

A noon chart shows which sign each planet was in at noon on the person's day of birth. Mercury, the fastest moving planet except for the Moon, travels no more than a degree and a half each day. This means that Mercury's location at the actual, though unknown, birth time could not have been more than one degree away from where it was at noon.

This situation applies to all other planets (the slower the planet, the closer to accurate is its position in a noon chart) except the Moon. The Moon changes signs much more often, moving about 13 degrees each day, so I place small dots on either side of its symbol as a reminder of this. In the illustration below, the Moon changed signs on the day of birth, moving from Libra into Scorpio.

It's not often that more than one planet besides the Moon changes signs during any particular day. Because of this, most planets' sign placements in a noon chart are correct with regard to the actual, though unknown, moment of birth.
